Business Development Lead – London & South East 

As our client portfolio continues to grow, we are seeking exceptional people to help us deliver complex transformation programmes and support the next stage of Newtrality’s growth. Our work programme is varied including delivery of major cost reduction programmes, progressing complex ERP implementations and supporting wider reorganisation.

About the role

The Business Development Lead is responsible for driving Newtrality’s commercial growth and market presence across London and the South East. Working at the forefront of the organisation, they identify opportunities, build strategic relationships and convert market intelligence into a sustainable pipeline of high-value work that supports both client outcomes and business growth. 

This role plays a central part in strengthening Newtrality’s position within Local Government, particularly across London’s Borough Councils and the wider South East public sector landscape. The Business Development Lead will develop a deep understanding of sector priorities, political and organisational drivers, and emerging challenges, positioning Newtrality as a trusted partner for transformation, Local Government Reorganisation, improvement and digital change. 

Working closely with the Founder, Business Development Director and consulting teams, the Business Development Lead will take primary responsibility for developing and growing Newtrality’s presence across London and the South East. This includes leveraging both their own professional network and Newtrality’s wider reputation and relationships to identify opportunities early, build trusted connections with senior leaders and convert opportunities into commercially viable programmes of work. 

The role requires a proactive and strategic approach to market development. The Business Development Lead will represent Newtrality across the sector, attend and organise events, facilitate introductions, shape propositions and work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure opportunities are aligned to client needs and organisational priorities. 

A significant focus of the role is building and managing a healthy pipeline, converting opportunities into contracted engagements and ensuring effective transition into delivery teams. Success is measured not only by sales performance but by the quality of relationships established, market intelligence generated and contribution to Newtrality’s long-term growth strategy. 

They act as ambassadors for the organisation, representing Newtrality with credibility and influence across the sector, while fostering a high-performance culture that supports the growth and development of colleagues at all levels.    

Key Responsibilities

Market Development and Relationship Building

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior leaders across Local Government, particularly within London Boroughs and councils across the South East. 

  • Develop a detailed understanding of the political, organisational and financial challenges facing the sector. 

  • Identify emerging trends, policy changes and market opportunities that align with Newtrality’s services and expertise. 

  • Represent Newtrality at sector events, conferences, networks and forums, strengthening awareness of the organisation and its capabilities. 

  • Build and maintain a strong network of clients, partners, associates and influencers across the region. 

Pipeline Development and Opportunity Conversion

  • Lead business development activity across London and the South East, creating and maintaining a sustainable pipeline of opportunities. 

  • Identify opportunities at an early stage and shape engagement strategies that position Newtrality effectively. 

  • Develop tailored propositions, approaches and commercial offers that respond to client needs and priorities. 

  • Convert opportunities into secured engagements through effective relationship management, opportunity qualification and proposal development. 

  • Maintain accurate forecasting and pipeline reporting, providing visibility of opportunities, risks and expected revenues. 

Commercial Leadership

  • Support the achievement of organisational growth targets through the development and conversion of high-quality opportunities. 

  • Work with internal subject matter experts and delivery teams to ensure proposals are commercially robust and deliverable. 

  • Contribute to pricing strategies, commercial negotiations and contract discussions where appropriate. 

  • Ensure opportunities align with Newtrality’s strategic priorities, values and delivery capability. 

Marketing and Brand Development

  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop campaigns, events, thought leadership and market-facing content. 

  • Use market insight to inform marketing activity and strengthen Newtrality’s brand positioning. 

  • Identify opportunities to raise Newtrality’s profile through speaking engagements, publications, roundtables and sector networks. 

  • Support the development and refinement of Newtrality’s service propositions and market messaging. 

Operational Excellence

  • Maintain effective CRM, pipeline and business development processes. 

  • Ensure opportunities are progressed through agreed governance and approval routes. 

  • Provide high-quality handover into delivery teams, ensuring continuity between sales and mobilisation. 

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of business development processes, tools and approaches. 

Contribution to Culture and Capability

  • Act as an ambassador for Newtrality, demonstrating professionalism, integrity and a client-focused mindset. 

  • Share market insight and intelligence across the organisation to support strategic decision-making. 

  • Support colleagues in developing commercial awareness and relationship-building capability. 

  • Contribute positively to Newtrality’s culture, values and ways of working. 

Success Measures

Success in this role will be demonstrated through: 

  • Growth of Newtrality’s presence and reputation across London and the South East. 

  • Development of a sustainable and high-quality opportunity pipeline. 

  • Achievement of agreed revenue and conversion targets. 

  • Strength and breadth of relationships with senior sector stakeholders. 

  • Quality of market intelligence and insight provided to the wider business. 

  • Successful collaboration with delivery and marketing teams. 

  • Positive client feedback and repeat business generation. 

  • Contribution to Newtrality’s wider growth, culture and strategic objectives. 

To be successful in this role, you will have significant experience working within Local Government and/or advising public sector organisations through consulting, transformation or improvement roles.

Indicative Interview Process

  1. Initial screening call with Resourcing & People Lead (video call)

  2. First stage interview with experience led questions with one of our directors (video call), themes of questions and job description will be provided

  3. Final Stage interview with Partner & Director(s) (video call/in-person where practical)
