Celebrating Leadership, Growth and Inclusion: Reflecting on the Different Leadership Programme

Different Programme graduation celebration and intake of cohort two.

Last week offered a powerful reminder of why initiatives like the Different Leadership programme matter — not just for individuals, but for the future of leadership across the sector.

At Newtrality, we had the privilege of being part of an evening dedicated to celebrating the achievements of the inaugural cohort, while also welcoming a new group of leaders beginning their journey. It was a moment to pause, reflect, and recognise the importance of creating space for diverse talent to thrive.

Recognising the Impact of Inclusive Leadership

The evening brought together participants, alumni, and sector leaders, all united by a shared commitment to advancing inclusive leadership. Through a series of reflections and conversations, it became clear that programmes like this are not just about professional development — they are about shifting culture.

Discussions around allyship and the role of local government in supporting global majority talent were particularly impactful. These conversations highlighted both the progress that has been made and the work that still lies ahead.

Real Stories, Real Change

What stood out most were the voices of those who had experienced the programme first-hand.

Hearing participants speak openly about their journeys — from building confidence to navigating systemic challenges — brought the programme’s impact to life. Their stories were honest, powerful, and deeply human.

These reflections reinforced an important truth: meaningful change happens when people are given the opportunity, support, and space to grow.

Why Programmes Like This Matter

Leadership development programmes that centre inclusion are critical in shaping more equitable organisations and sectors.

They:

  • Create pathways for underrepresented talent

  • Encourage open and honest dialogue

  • Build confidence and leadership capability

  • Challenge existing systems and ways of thinking

At Newtrality, we believe that investing in inclusive leadership is not optional — it is essential for long-term, sustainable change.

Looking Ahead

The evening closed with a strong sense of momentum.

As we celebrated the achievements of Cohort One, there was also excitement and optimism for Cohort Two as they begin their journey. The continuation of this programme signals a growing commitment to building a more inclusive and representative leadership landscape.

We are proud to support and be part of work that drives meaningful change — not just within programmes like this, but across the wider sector.

Final Reflections

Congratulations again to Cohort One — it has been a privilege to witness and support your journey.

And to Cohort Two, we wish you every success as you begin this next chapter.
